POLITICSInsecurity: Tinubu can’t fix in 6 months what Buhari failed at in 8 years – Shehu Sani Former Lawmaker, Shehu Sani has cautioned those criticising President Bola Tinubu over persistent insecurity across the country, including the northern region. Writing on his verified Facebook page, Senator Shehu Sani said, “The hypocrisy of many people in the North is how they tolerated insecurity in the North during the eight years of Buhari and are now voicing out against it under Tinubu. “It’s too early to forget how they shielded the past administration from criticism, it became almost a sin or taboo to criticize the past administration. At one time, all the Nation’s security, intelligence and defence apparatuses were headed by Northerners. “Each time I stood on the floor of the Senate to speak about the kidnappings and killings in the North, I only got insulted even by the Kaduna State Government and the ruling party. “The North should look inward and find solutions to its secur...

‘I Met My Husband In Enugu As A Youth Corper,’ Betty Akeredolu Mourns

Mrs Betty Anyanwu Akeredolu “I met my husband in Enugu, he was a youth corper then in Enugu. I was also posted to Enugu. So a friend of mine visited me and she came along with her boyfriend who also came along with my husband. That was how we met and it was love at first sight. I think people frown at love at first sight but it worked for us. I fell in love with his broad shoulders. Then he was really looking very cute. I can still remember what he was wearing that day – a red shirt, long sleeves and jeans trousers. That was 37 years ago. He couldn’t even take me out because he didn’t have money as a youth corper. It was quite magnetic and that was it.There is a 3-year age difference between us. I am older than him anyway. I was like 25 then while he was 22. It was love that really endured. I had graduated and in my place (Owerri) when a girl graduates from the University suitors come from left, right and centre. And your parents would expect you to go for a made man with everything, b...

Tales of the Next Onikoyi of Ikoyi

Tales of the next Onikoyi of Ikoyi  By Gasper Babatunde Ordinarily, the crisis brewing in the Ikoyi kingdom of Lagos Island over the choice of successor to the vacant throne is needless, indeed avoidable if only the stakeholders adhere to principle, if not tradition. Government, which is the regulator of chieftaincy affairs has put in place a traditional mechanism which was seemingly endorsed by the parties that can lay claim to the throne; so why is there an impasse that is threatening to boil over. And, like tales by moonlight, all these are happening following the demise of the late monarch, HRM Patrick Ibikunle Fafunwa-Onikoyi, the Onikoyi of Ikoyi Obalende and Imoba land, who passed on at a ripe age of 92. There may be a role for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to play in dousing the tension over the next Onikoyi if for nothing else, for the fact that he is father of all Nigerians and groups; as well as for the fact that Lagos is his primary constituency, if ever the president is ...
