FG Speaks On Sacking Thousands Of Workers Affected By Tinubu’s New Order Gasper Babatunde  Reporting  Amid concerns surrounding the implementation of Steve Oronsaye’s report, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has stated the stand of the federal government. The directive by Tinubu to implement Oronsaye’s report would reportedly affect thousands of workers in the scrapped and subsumed agencies However, Idris has assured that the federal government has no plans to retrench workers. He emphasized that the consolidation of certain parastatals aims to enhance efficiency in the civil service and reduce costs. Named the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP), the envisioned project would connect Nigeria’s expansive Warri hydrocarbon fields to Algeria’s Hassi R’Mel feeder hub on the Mediterranean coast. Up to a trillion cubic feet of natural gas annually will pass through 2,565 miles of pipeline, with Algeria’s segment comprising 1,435 miles, more than half the total project length. The mobile police officer, identified as Yusuf Samaila, was watching the match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) when they disappeared. According to an internal memo seen by TheCable, the National Mathematics Centre, Abuja, attributed the delay in the payment of the salaries to the non-conclusion of the 2024 appropriation on the government integrated financial management system (GIFMIS) platform by the office of the accountant-general of the federation (OAGF). According to the memo from the bursary department of the mathematical centre dated January 31, and titled, ‘Delay in the payment of January 2024 Salary’, all MDAs were affected. “We wish to inform you that January 2024 salaries will be delayed beyond normal,” the memo reads. The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC, in a statement posted on its X account said power outage being experienced in its franchise areas is as a result of a system failure from the national grid at 11:21 hours on Sunday. “The Management of Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc (AEDC) wishes to inform its valued customers that the power outage being experienced is as a result of a system failure from the national grid at 11:21 hours today, 4th February, 2024, which has led to a nationwide power outage. “Be rest assured that we are working with the relevant stakeholders to restore power as soon as the grid is stabilized,” the statement said. The development comes after electricity supply dropped in parts of the country over constraints in gas supply to electricity generation companies. The worker’s situation is compounded by the fact that they also owed a backlog of N35,000 in wage awards. It was gathered that non-payment of the January salary to core civil servants and non-core civil servants is due to the inability of the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, OAGF, to finalise the 2024 Appropriation on the Government Integrated Financial Management System, GIFMIS, platform. The failure has prevented the release of the personnel warrant for January 2024 for salary payment.
